The Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Professional and Vocational Licensing Division, regulates Hawaii mortgage brokers and solicitors. Although Hawaii mortgage bankers are not separately licensed, most mortgage bankers are required to be licensed as mortgage brokers in Hawaii. Hawaii law defines “mortgage broker” as a person “who for compensation or gain… either directly makes, negotiates, [or] acquires… a mortgage loan on behalf of a borrower seeking a mortgage loan.” A list of licensed mortgage brokers and solicitors is available for approximately $58.00 from the Professional and Vocational Licensing Division. Submit your written request, along with your payment (checks made payable to Commerce and Consumer Affairs) to: Mortgage Brokers and Solicitors Program, Professional and Vocational Licensing Division, P.O. Box 3469, Honolulu, Hawaii 968012.
