 The Consumer Credit Division of the Maryland Division of Financial Regulation regulates mortgage lenders and mortgage brokers. Approximately 2873 Maryland lenders and Maryland brokers are licensed in the State of Maryland. Maryland’s licensee list is available for $60.00, in printed format, or for $43.00 on diskette, from Brenda Higgins at (410) 230-6394. A list of licensees is also available on the Division’s web site.

Maryland’s licensing statute for mortgage lenders and brokers was originally enacted in 1989. On July 1, 1996, Maryland’s Office of the Commissioner of Consumer Credit merged with the Maryland State Bank Commissioner into the Division of Financial Regulation2 .
