 The Division of Banking regulates mortgage lenders and brokers. Approximately 350 lenders and brokers are licensed in the State of West Virginia. Licensee lists are available from the Division of Banking’s website at www.wvdob.org.

West Virginia substantially amended the scope of mortgage regulation in 2000, requiring primary lien lenders and brokers to obtain a license for the first time in addition to continued regulation of subordinate lien lenders and brokers. The Division of Banking issues both Mortgage Lender and Mortgage Broker licenses to entities conducting mortgage lending and brokering on real estate located in West Virginia. Amendments to the statute were enacted in 2001 with additional changes expected in 20022 .
